Born in Bartica and raised in Georgetown, Briony Tiwarie is the eldest of four children. Her parents moved to Georgetown when she was just a few weeks old, and she has lived there ever since ? with the exception of time spent abroad pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies.
Briony earned her Master?s Degree with Honors in International Business at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, which was provoked by a strong interest in different cultures and business on a global perspective. She believes in thinking locally but acting globally since business is moving at a global speed and culture has a lot to do with how people think and act.
Briony is currently employed with BK Group of Companies as a Director. She related, ?I am focused on the growth of my company in its quest to continue to add to Guyana?s infrastructural and economic development. I hope to foster my own growth as well through experience with work and expanding my academic portfolio. The experience will be an asset as it will give me a better understanding and concrete foundation as I move forward in business.? Briony recently served on Guyana?s Manufacturing and Services Association Board for one year.
Briony explained that during her college years, she had some of the best experiences of her life. ?In addition to opportunities to study in countries such as Italy and Russia, I was also introduced to philanthropy. Becoming a member of Delta Phi Omega Sorority Inc., a philanthropic South Asian sorority, I developed an interest in community service. Through these experiences, I grew tremendously. I am now a member of another organization; ?Grant-a-Dream Inc.?, which dedicates its time and energies to the less fortunate in Guyana.?
Her heroes: ?My parents, I am very fortunate to be blessed with parents who have sacrificed everything to provide my siblings and I with a comfortable life. Through them I learned to be charitable, to never forget where I came from, and to always be humble. The struggles I saw them overcome, the passion within them to persevere, and their courage to continue to move forward even in the most difficult times inspired me to be where I am today.?
Her advice to young people: ?I would share the same advice my parents gave me when it comes to work, that is; it?s good to dream but if you don?t act on it then it makes no sense. Another man will be half way building while you?re still dreaming. Whatever you do in life, give it your all or nothing at all because what you sow is what you reap.?
