Fire Heavily Damages Local Church

MARLIN (December 31, 2011)?A fire that broke out in the attic of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at 419 Live Oak St. in Marlin caused extensive damage to the building.

The fire, which was reported just after 4 p.m. Friday, broke out while the pastor and another man were in the building.

They both escaped safety.

Crews from the Marlin Fire Department and Marlin Volunteer Fire Department traced the fire to the attic over the sanctuary and extinguished the flames.

The attic sustained some fire damage and heavy smoke damage.

The sanctuary sustained light smoke and water damage, officials said.

Firefighters used tarps to protect items in the sanctuary as they extinguished the flames in the attic, officials said.

The cause of the fire was identified as a faulty breaker, officials said.

No one was hurt.
